i am zhaozhou's mistress

Since I was three, the notion that the cosmos is one limitless mind has come up for consideration with regularity. It fills up with more nuance every time it pops up and by now it doesn’t even need to pop up anymore, because, if you ask me, cosmos is God’s mind. Period.

Everything in His Mind is conscious, including nothing [which is a thing]. Rocks may not have sense organs to experience it physically, but they are not unconscious. Same with “empty” space. I think maybe rocks might actually be the most, or among the most, spiritual entities extant. They’re just mostly too boring to worry about very much. Unless, I guess, yer a geologist.

So, despite his accent scrunching up my earprints, this fellow just made me happy by elucidating for us just how much power the rest of the cosmos has over conditions here on Endurance, to use the most cogent name ever given our planet.

When I invoke the buddhas of the ten directions, I might be invoking rocks — great enlightening beings. I mean, probably not — I’m being colorful here — but it is possible that a rock on some planet, or even mote of cosmic dust, orbiting one or another star of the Orionis ilk has already telegraphed me to congratulate me on my insight. It could arrive any minute now.
