Yes, paleomagnetism effects tectonic plates, so the magnetic poles moving around causes some upheaval, but not to the extent that the planet turns ass over tea kettle.
I suppose there's always the possibilty that something cosmic and really seriously disruptive to the magnetosphere and its contents could put us that far off kilter, but barring that, the magnetic poles moving only causes terrible vexation for navigators.
