I found the best iteration of Rubi at the London Olympics. THAT is one hell of a horse. WAY more talented than any of yer warmbloods and Oldenburgs and Hanoverians, etc. And attuned to a truly superior horseman, who does him the honor of not doing it like a sack of potatoes.
The fact that Rubi is SO perfectly on it in response to his rider, doing supremely difficult dressage moves so close to perfectly here, and every place we've been blessed to see him do his thing, is more than most mortals even deserve.
Those snooty judges should hang their heads in shame. No one has done a piaffe pirhouette at a horse show since the great Nuno Oliveira decades and decades ago. Why? Because it's viciously too hard for them. NOT their horses. Just them. So Rubi still ends up way behind a passel of big tall relative clunkers for why?
For being an Iberian horse.
Though, you might notice, quite a few top ranked riders are trying mightily to pull it off NOW.
Because they KNOW they got smoked in London.
