Since birth, I am telling you this is about the size of it. Insofar as one might worry this will be extra weight in favor of more water theft from Northern California, it'll have to be over our dead bodies.

You can't just let a place populate like that without THEIR OWN resources. The planet does NOT cater to your whims. If you subtract from one part of it to add to another you get two definitely suboptimal places that BOTH are less capable of sustaining flourishing living things.

And, Donald, raking up the forest floor means loss of soil nutrients. Mulching weed trees and understory brush is THE answer. That is an expense we could very profitably pay if all our young people were enlisted to contribute their labor. It would get them out of their parents' basements and into nature. It would be gorgeous work experience. Certainly we can figure out the optimal age and put that in as summer jobs.

I don't know if Los Angeles County is really even capable of resuming its historical agricultural output anymore, but it should maybe do that, instead of returning to metropolis status... AFTER they get the desalination plant they've needed to provide water for their crops and swimming pools. STILL, the land cannot sustain THAT population.

And whatever we do, we must remind ourselves of that. Forgetting, neglecting it just spells doom for this huge chunk of North America.
