I don't think anyone was feeling sorry for the loss of him after so long being in that limbo, where yer lost already but it's not formally recognized. Like maybe we ought to have held a memorial service for him when he got the brain cancer and we were all feeling bad about it.
Waiting clear until today to formally kick the bucket has left so many people just fine with joking about our loss.
