Earlier, I watched the first minutes of an interview with the always excellent Scott Horton, and he mentioned something I had not thought of, an insightful-if-limp excuse for the administration's behavior; to wit: they think Putin will be loath to respond too angrily because he is expecting a sane person to take charge in January.
That's valid. Sickening, but valid.
