I'm still kicking myself for being too stupid to download the mp3s Stills had on his website, for literally years. They were ALL just him recording just his songs... playing all the instruments and doing all the singing. I can't remember for certain if he said he'd done that before or after he recorded them with Crosby and Nash, but I'm pretty sure it was before.
It had been a bone of contention back in prehistory, back when Crosby was OBNOXIOUS cubed, let alone when he turned into a not just another ego victim, but THE ego victim of planetary reknown. That man, as everybody knows, FINALLY came to the party very late in life, and made up for all those decades of idiocy as comprehensively as I've ever seen anyone do.
And, oddly, mostly, maintained his ability to sing. Might've been because he and Nash had sung all those Stills songs, and farmed themselves out to other artists, for SO long their vocal cords seemed hardly to tank as badly as usually happens.
Whatever. In my career online, I know for CERTAIN that I have missed at least three truly transcendental artists' truly transcendent mp3 giveaways — Stills, Cooder, Mellenchamp — four, if you count a Plant and Page song that stopped linking on my old music blog. That was when I learned that you lose when you snooze on the internet.
Especially with music, but also with absolutely everything ever uploaded to it.
