Anyone playing Paul Newman here today would be seen as stupid or wrong. Today, it makes absolutely NO difference to them what we think. They make their appropriations as they see fit, as they are bribed or coerced to see fit.
Public opinion has no effect on what they do or don't do nowadays.
We don't change our opinion so much as we simply let it be sublimated by the "news" cycle... which might more appropriately called the propaganda cycle, so little actuality is put about in the media now.
We don't think we have the energy or wherewithal for that anymore. Most of us actually do still have the energy, but way fewer of us have the wherewithal. Better look sharp, now, snap out of it, or we drown.
