Never could. I mean living in them. I feel everybody within a pretty large radius and cities just crush me, without exception, if I spend too much time in one.
Still, there are some I have loved, and plotted for ways to make them doable... like living above a corner market in a space that was half faraday cage and half padded cell, to ward off radiation and noise, create silence where never is there silence.
Much as I badmouth San Francisco these days, never was there a city I loved more, but it's been decades since San Francisco was the source of so much enjoyment and pride for me. It hasn't sparkeled or lived up to its theme song in SO long.
This just breaks my heart. Truly. It hurts like hell.
