Homelessness and drug addiction and mental health problems are not ACTUALLY very hard problems to solve. Or at least alleviate greatly. But we don't do what it takes because it does not serve politicians to make the solutions ever happen.
It would mean ceasing to be able to enrich their friends with the funds we vote for these.
They do that by spending it all on commissioning studies... endlessly.
AND if they actually did solve them, they'd lose a big chunk of their control mechanisms.
