Fiends start whispering things, and people are hypnotized by something a wealthy, ergo "important" person has whispered, and, poof, their dank imaginings start turning into reality. Now, everyone is thinking if-we're-lucky-they'll-keep-us-as-pets. This leaves me here, thinking maybe the old saw about war eliminating courage from the gene pool was not pure cynicism.
