Was a poodle fanatic. Contrary to the whims of pop culture, poodles are maybe THE smartest breed of dog and they come in all sizes. Our second, a toy poodle, Jacques, was probably the Einstein of poodles.
You could give him detailed instructions and he would follow them. He had the funniest enthusiasms. He'd snap endlessly at gnats. He loved only gigantic Amazon bitches he could never reach to so much as sniff. He was a cat midwife and nanny to all kittens. And no matter how big a bed you ever found, he would pick the spot on it where you couldn't get comfortable without moving him.
But, really, his mastery of the English language was the part that floored everyone.
