That had to be a really slow and sidelong meteor we saw back in 1990 at the Mattole Grange Hall parking lot. It was riveting, but we did not make a big deal of it. Just watched it pass over, agape, and then resumed jawing and smoking cigarettes while the rest of the people were inside dancing.
