Back when we were all well-educated and sensible hypnotized liberals, well-educated and sensible hypnotized scientists convinced us salt was evil, and we adjusted our diets accordingly. Well, they were like General Campbell's intelligence people, misleading us according to what they'd been taught.
It is not purely the dumbing down that is the worst of it. That's easy to fix if you can get over the hard part. The hard part is convincing people that their education and all the life choices and professional decisions they've made off it has been not only wrong, but lethally so. Not even the biggest ego maniac cares if he's been wrong about something completely innocuous and inconsequential. Beyond maybe a flashing blush for thinking a pole cat isn't a skunk, he's going to adjust happily to the newly acquired straight dope.
When I look back on all the years I made the addition of salt to anything going into your body seem like the hallmark of a subpar intelligence — big IQ royalty nines — I know karma has been gentle with me, that all my miseries are mere hangnails next to the number of people I may have helped edge themselves closer to incapacity, if not even death itself.
