Maybe Miwok.

It pisses me off that these putzes assume bloody aggression or grisly superstition to this stuff. It is well-known that humans, over the courses of our lives, love and revere certain others to the point we would die for them. It is also pretty well known that we tend to want to cling to their remains however we might after they die.

Perfectly peaceful souls who'd never do intentional harm to another can feel this way, can have kept a skull cap out of sentiment, out of the wish to show fidelity even after death, to a spouse or a child or someone greatly loved and admired, even to the point of wanting it with us in our graves.

I was allowed to spread some of the ashes of a man I revered and loved. I rubbed what of them clung to me on my skin and licked my hands... and, yes, if someone had taken his skull cap before they cremated him and given it to me, it would be right here with me right now.

"Trophies." Fuck you.

always and any time....
