When you want to get an idea of how big a posturing ninny you're dealing with, on the system of pipes or in meatspace, note things like how he or she chooses to deal with things like 4/20... which flavor mainstream? Literary or pop or grunge or beansprout?
I remember Jonathan telling me which poems he wanted me to submit to the Paris Review. He thought they were more than good enough, but cautioned me they are terrible snobs at that magazine and you mostly need to be connected to be considered publishable there. I'm not... or... I am, but I wouldn't use them for such a thing.
