Yes, yes, I know it's weird, but it works. I get it when I get my hair cut and in eye exams and in some other weird and rare instances. The weirdest is maybe when a horse is getting a vet exam. During the parts where the vet is using the stethoscope on various areas and palpating various areas, the horse usually begins drooping its eyelids and/or trying to stand very still, obviously having an ASMR, and I have a vicarious one! It depends on the vet a lot, but it's definitely silly... and fun.
My theory is that it harks up sensory experience from when we were still in our mothers. I'm certain that's why I fall dead asleep when lying in a sleeping bag in a truck bed going down the highway. It's illegal nowadays, but when I was a kid I did it on a trip down to San Luis Obispo from Marin. Slept the whole way. Out like a light. Even though I'd only been up an hour or so before we left.
