A kind I recognize.

And I'm sure lots of people will be shocked by it, but I'm going to keep on digging into people we're taught to revile. Entirely too often some real scrutiny yields up big surprises. Never mind anything specific, but, strikes me, when the world fills with disapproval of someone one doesn't know, that is a cue to look more closely.

Maybe looking more closely when it's the other way around is also in order... more now than ever before, because the mainstream has never been this tightly controlled in our lifetimes. If they want us to hate them, that automatically speaks well of them. If they want us to love them, that automatically casts suspicion upon them.

Our lives are so full of things to think about and see into and accomplish and endure, we do need rules of thumb... so long as we don't turn them into deadfall traps that rob us of decades when they don't kill us.

always and any time....
