Ancient redwoods once stood here. In the 1800s they logged it all out and blew up the stumps so the perennial grasses would spread out over everything and feed vast herds of cattle in perpetuity. Of course, the herds were too vast for the grasses and Marin is left bereft of most of her redwood and almost all trace of her perennial grass, but who's counting?
