That way I could show you the fireball that flew overhead outside the Mattole Grange Hall in 1990. I'm sitting here trying to say why I want to tell you it was about half the size of a VW Beetle... maaaybe a whole one. Mostly round. Bright blazing. Going fast. With flames all tilting from it behind its trajectory, but not producing anything you'd really call a tail. It was high enough to make it over the hills and the trees, but really only just. We were all waiting for the sound of the crash, and the volunteer firemen were already going for their truck keys, but, pft. Nothing happened. No crash. No smoke. Just the muffled sound of the dance band inside. Must've made it into the ocean.
Anyway, my point is. We all went whoa, lookit, and then just watched, and then just listened, and after maybe thirty-seconds inclusive, we just started blabbing away again like nothing happened.
