Maybe it's always been this weird and our information has just been so slow or absent we never put it together before. I mean, probably not, but everyone is so vigilant about this stuff in these times of global information availability that we're just reeling from merely having a better idea of conditions everywhere. I do remember deep back into antiquity regular visits in the headlines of freak storms, flash floods, hurricanes, landslides... and I wasn't even paying that close attention....
