my feeling for barry scheck

I am never going to be able to express accurately enough my love and gratitude for Barry Scheck. He is definitely one of the greatest humans of all time. I remember people saying nasty things about his dweebiness in the OJ trial, singling him out as the most deserving of our derogation.

Well, I watched that trial and, much to the contrary, he was the only sane spot in the whole thing. My admiration for him, just in that one case, was already immense. His closing argument was one of the most spectacular moments in legal history. I can't even count the times he's topped himself since then.

Part of me wants to whine about what can it matter that he so doggedly devotes his life to freeing convicts who never should have been convicted, but there is an object lesson in it. We are wrong. We are not "good" or "just". We feign those things. And Barry works hard to fish out our victims.

And there's a good reason so many singled him out in the OJ debacle. He stood out like a sore thumb. It is a matter of permanent pain to me that people with such transcendental integrity are singled out in such a negative way by the masses, but this is hugely instructive, even as I'd do anything to make it not so.
