Every goddam time anything awful happens, stuff hits the intertubes that puts the lie to the mainstream spin. It also always puts the truth to it being the mainstream perpetrating these supposedly random acts of carnage, whether we're talking at home or around the world.
You cannot just decide to split the difference, choose the middle ground, because that is only abstracting, has nothing to do with truth. But to choose all or nothing based on the pattern is equally baseless reality-murder because you also haven't got the facts for either.
I think the only "safe" option is to go with The Mainstream Always Lies And The Mainstream Always Did It. That, at least, keeps you in front of the blaring necessity to fix it.
