I had THE most beautiful drive down today. As I hit the famous cliffs above Jenner, a stretch of highway where the gullies run to rapids with the pee of midwesterners every summer, where the whole steep and tortuous way is hatched with cattle guards, an hour before sunset, there was a vast spiral cloud out over the Pacific to my right. Down from the spiral dropped spirals of clouds full of the sun.
THERE WAS A PINWHEEL RAINBOW OUT THERE!
I shit you not. Almost no one was on the road. I know everyone was waaaaay behind me, blocked by a monster in a huge RV with an SUV hitched to it. So I could safely stop my car dead in our tracks to make sure.
It was AMAZING and giddy-making. My heart swelled up past Pluto.
I MIGHT BE THE ONLY PERSON ON PLANET EARTH EVER TO HAVE SEEN THIS.
In fact, unless someone way up in the hills looked out at just the right moment, I'm IT. THE witness.
I wanted to shoot out of my moonroof to join the sky.
I wanted to BE a camera to come back here to show it to you....
