I only have ONE thing to say about it.

...

And, of course, THIS would bear on the same point.

I don't know. I'm a little addled, just barely keeping it together with the tooth debacle and all the confusion of a new site and then the somewhat disorienting, but oddly not that distressing, dunderheaded loss of my little universe of bookmarks. That's all hard on me. I saw somewhere a video snippet of Taliban guys marching into a mountain stronghold recently abandoned by our troops because, they said, it had been too expensive—in blood and treasure—to hold. I think in plain English they meant to convey that our troops there were forced into retreat by the Taliban, but plain English is not the done thing these days, and I'm, as I say, a bit addled.

It seems to me our forces, police or military, all find it much easier to pick on defenseless civilians and call it good. Silly me. I keep dreaming they're all going to have a big aha moment any minute now and either lay down their arms or aim them at the real criminals, the real enemy, but it is, in fact, much easier and less dangerous to just bully and slaughter innocent people and call it "doing my job".
